Although it is called the Alzheimer Café, the café is for people who are affected by any
type of dementia, and their families

Join us for a cup of tea and cake at the Alzheimer Café Donnybrook

Who runs the Alzheimer Café Donnybrook?

The Alzheimer Café in Donnybrook is led by a voluntary steering committee. Sinéad Grennan, CEO, Engaging Dementia, is the Alzheimer Cafe Donnybrook Co-ordinator.

Other members of the voluntary Steering Committee are: Professor of Dementia, NUI Galway, Matthew Gibb (Treasurer), Director, The Dementia Services Information and Development Centre (DSIDC), Sarah Cosgrave, Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner, St Vincent’s University Hospital, Avril Easton, Advocacy Manager, the Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI)., Dr Michelle O’Brien, Specialist Registrar in Geriatric medicine, St Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin and HSE, Ros O’Byrne, retired nurse and former family carer, Judy Williams, Chair, Dementia Carers Campaign Network, and former family carer

The steering committee is supported by a panel of volunteers, who help out at the Alzheimer Cafe Donnybrook every month. Click here to find us.

For me, the Alzheimer Café is a light hearted, fun place for people to have a chat, a cup of tea and engage in conversation with experts in the field of dementia. Sinead consistently brings in professionals that specialise in working with people with dementia as guest speakers. I’ve found the guest speakers to be really valuable to the night providing a ton of useful information. The floor is opened up for a Q&A which provides both insightful and entertaining discussion. I recommend you bring your family along and have a slice a cake with the lovely volunteers and other guests.

I love being involved in the Alzheimer Café Donnybrook. Over the years, there has been a lot of laughter and some tears, as people have swapped stories and advice. I’ve met extraordinary people and learned about the art of caring. It’s rewarding to be involved in a support that brings so much comfort. And then there’s Bridget’s lemon drizzle cake. Reason enough to go to a café evening!

Sinéad Grennan

Chief Executive Engaging Dementia

I’ve volunteered with the Alzheimer’s Café- Donnybrook since September 2016 and it’s always a pleasure to attend. It’s a great place to access information and support and to meet with people with similar experiences. Every café evening is different however what them all have is common is a safe and supportive environment, practical information you can use and plenty of tea and cakes. I would definitely recommend  coming along if you or someone you know is living with dementia.
